"I will show you what someone is like who comes to me, listens to my words, and acts on them. that one is like a person building a house, who dug deeply and laid the foundation on rock; when the floood came, the river burst against the house but could not shake it because it had been well built." Luke 6:46

Faith Foundations

Faith Foundations are programs or organizations that help to build ones faith and dedication to the church. St. John the Evangelist has several such programs they are:

 Knights of Columbus 8342 & Columbian Squires

     The Knights of Columbus is an organization of over 1.7 million men who are 18 years of age and older. They are practical Catholics who are in union with the Holy See.

      The organization was founded in 1882 by a parish priest, Fr. Michael J. McGivney with the objective to:
          1) strengthen themselves and each other in the Faith;
          2) strengthen families and family life;
          3) be a strong pillar of support for their priests and bishops;
          4) be of service to Church and community by coming to the aid of those most in need in society; and
          5) aid one another in times of sickness or death, by means of a simple insurance plan, so that their wives and children would not face abject poverty.

The Columbian Squires is the official youth organization of the Knights of Columbus. It was established under the direction of Brother Barnabas McDonald, F.C.S. on August 4, 1925. The Columbian Squires is open to all young men aged 10 through 17 years.

     Squires LogoA Squires circle is designed to be run by and for the members. Through their local circle, Squires work and socialize as a group of friends while gradually developing into Catholic leaders.

Questions regarding the Columbian Squires may be addressed to the Chief Counselor Ashley Rabalais c/o paulwallen@cox.net

Youth Ministry at St. John offers a program for middle and high school aged parishioners and their friends.The groups are made of several different public and parochial schools that operate within our church parish. The youth group offers our young people the opportunity to get to know each other and to build a strong community of faith through fellowship, fun, prayer and service. To find out what our youth groups are up see our Youth Ministry page.

Vocations Awareness
(Traveling Chalice)

The word Vocation means: to be called.  God calls every person to live a life of holiness through one of four lifestyles:

Ordained Life      Religious Life     Married Life        Single Life

What Vocation is God calling YOU to live?

At St. John one of the ways in which we encourage our parishioners to consider the ordained or religious life is through the traveling chalice. This is a retired cup that is exchanged after the mass and then taken home by a family who spends the week in prayer for vocations.

(It worked!  St. John has recently had a parishioner go into the seminary for the first time in many years. We hope it is only the beginning of a growing trend toward the religious life.)
