"The Lord has done great things, Holy is his name."
Through liturgy and worship we are called to not only acknowledge, respect and praise God, but also to serve him through the conscious, active and fruitful participation of all. The following is a list of ministries in this category:
Altar Servers- Altar servers assist the priest during the Eucharistic celebrations as well as other special services during the year. This ministry welcomes boys and girls of our parish who have completed the second grade and have received the sacrament of First Eucharist. Those students who may be interested in becoming an Altar Server should contact Fr. Eric @ Egyan@eatel.net.
Please contact Lisa Babin for current roster. Arts and Environment Committee- Members of this committee work in cooperation with Fr. Eric, in the planning for special liturgical seasons and for other special celebrations such as Easter, Christmas, and Confirmation. Volunteers are needed to help with creative ideas and planning. Additional help is required to help with the physical aspects of Liturgy. Members assist by making liturgical banners and sewing, putting plants, hanging banners, lighting and other special decorative effects in and around the church. Those interested should contact LisaBabin@eatel.net.
Eucharistic Ministers- Eucharistic Ministers are those men and women who assist in the distribution of the Holy Eucharist at all Eucharistic celebrations. This ministry is open to practicing Catholics who are in communion (free to receive the Eucharist) with the church. They should have a deep appreciation and love of the Eucharist. Eucharistic ministers are appointed by the bishop upon recommendation of the pastor. Their term of service is three years. Ministers must attend an orientation seminar upon acceptance. They are scheduled to serve approximately once a month. Please contact Wayne Amos through the church at LisaBabin@eatel.net for more information.
Eucharistic Ministers to the Homebound- These ministers are asked to bring the sacred Body of Christ to those who are unable to attend Sunday Eucharist because of illness or age. These ministers are asked to visit the homebound after Mass on Sunday or at some convenient time during the week. Also, the priests visit the homebound monthly bringing Holy Communion, usually around the first Friday of the month. Please contact Louise McFadden at LouiseMc@eatel.net.
Ladies Altar Society - Members of this group work in teams to clean the church on a weekly basis. Other duties include cleaning and ironing linens, and maintaining an inventory of candles and other necessary items. LAS members also staff the religious articles gift shop found in the back of church. Contact Monica Roussel at stjohnchurch@eatel.net.
Lectors (Readers)- Members of this ministry are those who proclaim the Scripture readings during mass on Sunday, Holy days and other special observances. Training sessions are required prior to beginning this ministry. Readers are scheduled to read at the Mass they normally attend. Contact LisaBabin@eatel.net.
Mass Intentions- The "Mass Intention" book is always open. All Mass Intentions are now collective intentions (those joined with others), and are scheduled year round. For more information contact SMoreau@eatel.net.
Music Ministry
The treasury of sacred music is to be preserved and cultivated with great care. Choirs must be diligently developed, especially in cathedral churches. Bishops and other pastors of souls must do their best to ensure that whenever a liturgical action is to be accompanied by chant, the whole body of the faithful may be able to take that active part which is rightly theirs. Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, 114
Music is not an embellishment or a gloss on ritual activity; it is an aspect of ritual activity itself. To put it another way, music is just as essential a part of the environment of Christian worship as presider and people, altar and font, plants and banners, candles and crosses. Nathan Mitchell
St. John is blessed with a wide array of musical talents. Each Mass has dedicated choir members who provide quality music to enhance the Liturgy. The areas in which you may become involved in this ministry are:
